Start-up of a chemist
On September 6, 1873, the young chemist Dr. Heinrich Byk takes the plunge into self-employment in Berlin: He registers his company in the commercial register under the number 7595 - thus founding today's BYK. "Dr. Heinrich Byk, Chemische Fabrik" produces commercial chemicals such as iodine, bromine and bismuth salts as well as pharmaceutical preparations.
In 1898 alone, the company launches 16 new products on the market. BYK maintains a wide range of international business relationships, selling products to South Africa and importing raw materials from China at the turn of the century.

The company quickly rises to become a major player in its sector - mainly thanks to Heinrich Byk's discoveries. In the course of his life, the chemist registered 75 patents. When Heinrich Byk retired from the company in 1906, Chemische Fabrik had two sites in Berlin and Oranienburg with more than 120 employees.
