かなりの表面張力差を均一化する必要がある場合は、ポリシロキサンを使用することができます。ポリシロキサンは、その化学構造により、塗液の表面張力を大幅に低下させることができます。それにより、基材の濡れ性を向上させたり、ハジキ防止の添加剤として使用することができます。ポリシロキサンは、塗膜システムとの不相溶性が十分であれば、消泡効果も発揮します。さらに、シリコーン系添加剤は硬化塗膜の表面滑り性を向上させるので、耐スリキズ性や耐ブロッキング性の向上にも役立ちます。
ポリアクリレートは小さな表面張力差しか均等化できないため、塗液の表面張力を低下させないか、わずかに低下させるだけです。
これらは主にレベリングを改善するために使用されます。しかし、十分な不相溶性があれば、これらの製品も消泡特性を発揮することができます。さらに、典型的な両極性構造（極性／非極性）により、同様に表面活性があり、表面張力を低下させるために使用できる一群の低分子量界面活性剤のグループもあります。
