BYK-03X は、BYK 鉱物油系消泡剤シリーズの名称です。鉱物油系消泡剤は、主にツヤ消しおよび半ツヤ消しのエマルション塗料およびエマルションプラスターを対象としています。表面の欠陥（油分の分離、光沢低下）を引き起こす可能性があるため、高品質の工業用水系塗料には適しません。さらに、レベリング性が不十分なため、溶剤系塗料には使用されません。
鉱物油系消泡剤は、約85～95％の鉱物油と1～3％の疎水性粒子からなります。また、乳化剤、防腐剤、変性ポリシロキサンなどの性能向上成分も含まれています。脂肪族鉱油がキャリアオイルとして使用されます。
消泡剤に乳化剤が必要なのは、鉱油中に粒子を効率よく分散させるためです。また、消泡剤を塗料に配合しやすくする効果もあります。アルキルフェノールエトキシレート(APEO)は健康保護の見地から許可されなくなったため、最新の鉱物油系消泡剤にはAPEOフリーの乳化剤が使われています。
特に、高光沢エマルション用の高品質の消泡剤には、自発的な消泡効果を向上させるために少量の変性ポリシロキサンが含まれていることがよくあります。鉱物油系消泡剤は、消泡剤の中で最もコスト効率の高い製品です。
