BYK has been producing plastic additives since the mid-1970s
Bringing together the A and O: entering the plastics market
In 1975, BYK adds the first PVC additives to its portfolio with DISPERPLAST-A and DISPERPLAST-O, thus adding a new area to the additives business for the first time. BYK understood that growth is limited if you are in just one segment. The research department quickly realizes that the findings from paint production can be transferred particularly well to plastics processing. A small project team is developing wetting and dispersing additives for soft PVC.
DISPERPLAST-A and DISPERPLAST-O ensure that the plastic mass is less viscous. At the same time, they reduce the settling of solids. For PVC manufacturers, the new additives have a double advantage: They optimize the production process and improve the quality of the end product.
DISPERPLAST-A and DISPERPLAST-O established a new group of additives. With DISPERPLAST-P and DISPERPLAST-I, more products followed, leading to rapid growth of the division. Soon, plastic additives became a solid part of the product range: In the early 1980s, they accounted for almost a third of all additives at BYK.
