Re-establishment in Wesel
While BYK had previously concentrated mainly on pharmaceutical products, a new era begins in 1962: the concentration on paint auxiliaries – the term "additives" only becomes established later on.
From the 1970s, BYK concentrates on specialty chemicals.
The beginnings are modest. Production and the laboratory are housed together in one building. A handful of employees produce wetting and dispersing agents from the ANTI-TERRA range, the leveling agent BYKETOL and the antifoaming agent BUBBLE BREAKER. Nevertheless, the Wesel plant achieves a turnover of 500,000 Deutschmarks with eleven products in its first year of existence.
Pioneering spirit, diligence, courage and innovative ideas lay the solid foundations for a company in Wesel that is still successful today. This spirit makes the company a premium supplier of additives and continues to characterize BYK and its people to this day.
