Aqueous surface additives

BYK-349

BYK-349 is a silicone surfactant with excellent substrate wetting properties in aqueous systems. It significantly reduces the surface tension, has no foam stabilizing effect and improves the flow of the system. BYK-349 does not increase the surface slip and has no negative influence on subsequently applied layers. It is an extremely versatile surface additive that is effective on a wide variety of substrates and is therefore used in numerous systems, including VOC-free systems. BYK-349 also meets some regulations for use in food contact applications **. No SVHC labeling on the EU safety data sheet *.

Benefits

  • Very effective wetting of a wide variety of substrates
  • Improves the flow
  • No foam stabilization
  • PFAS-free

Applications

  • General industrial coatings, automotive coatings, architectural coatings, can coatings, coil coatings, wood and furniture coatings, marine and protective coatings, floor coatings, printing inks, inkjet inks, leather coatings, construction chemicals, paper coatings, adhesives, Home Care and I&I, lubricants, and mold release

BYK-3455

The silicone surfactant BYK-3455 significantly reduces the static and dynamic surface tension and ensures perfect substrate wetting, even on difficult substrates. At the same time, it significantly improves the flow, and the combination of these two important product properties is the special characteristic of BYK-3455. Additionally, it is more hydrophobic and consequently more hydrolytically stable than comparable additives. BYK-3455 does not promote foaming, does not impair the application of subsequent layers, and does not increase surface slip. Due to its special compatibility in various binder systems BYK-3455 is well suited for modern formulations and meets some regulations for use in food contact applications**. No SVHC labeling on the EU safety data sheet*.

Benefits

  • Improvement of substrate wetting & leveling - ideal combination of product propertiesHigh hydrolytic stability
  • No influence on the adhesion of subsequent layers
  • No increase in surface smoothness
  • No/min. tendency to foam stabilization
  • High compatibility with a wide range of binder systems
  • PFAS-free

Applications

  • General industrial coatings, automotive coatings, architectural coatings, wood and furniture coatings, marine and protective coatings, floor coatings, printing inks, inkjet inks, leather coatings, construction chemicals, paper coatings, adhesives, Home Care and I&I, lubricants and mold release

BYK-3560

In aqueous systems, wetting and leveling can be controlled and optimized very well using surface additives containing silicone. However, if a high degree of recoatability or adhesion are also required, as in multi-layer systems, this technology reaches its limits. To close this gap BYK has developed macromer-modified polyacrylates such as BYK-3560. It is a polyether macromer-modified polyacrylate which increases the surface energy of a cured coating, thereby improving the recoatability and adhesion of subsequent layers. In addition, it promotes both the leveling of the system in which it is used and the leveling of subsequent layers.  BYK-3560 has 100% active substance and is easy to process.  It also has anti-scratch properties in water-based coatings. Additionally, BYK-3560 meets the current requirements of some regulations for use in food contact applications**.

Benefits

  • Increases thr surface energy of cured coatings in general & the polarity in particular
  • Improves the adhesion of subsequent layers
  • Promotes the leveling of the system and the leveling of the subsequent layer
  • High transparency in clearcoats
  • Silicone- and fluorine-free
  • 100% active substance, easy to work in
  • PFAS-free

Applications

  • General industrial coatings, automotive coatings, architectural coatings, can coatings, coil coatings, wood and furniture coatings, floor coatings, printing inks, inkjet inks, leather coatings, construction chemicals, paper coatings, adhesives, PVC plastisols

BYK-378 / BYK-3764

The silicone surface additive BYK-378 has a very balanced property profile, which is why it can be used in a wide range of applications and has met with a correspondingly positive response on the market. For some years now, it has been supplemented by a low-cycle product variant, BYK-3764*.  Both additives greatly increase the surface slip and thus also improve scratch resistance. The moderate to strong reduction in surface tension leads to excellent substrate wetting and a good anti-crater effect. Picture framing is avoided. In matted systems, they ensure perfect orientation of the matting agents. BYK-378 and BYK-3764 are highly effective even at low dosages and are only slightly foam-stabilizing. Both additives do not impair the adhesion of subsequent layers and meet some regulations for use in applications with food contact**. BYK-3764: no SVHC labeling on the EU safety data sheet*.

Benefits

  • Broad compatibility
  • High surface slip at low dosage, improved scratch resistance
  • Reduced surface tension for very good substrate wetting & anti-cratering properties
  • Low foam stabilization
  • No impairment of the adhesion of subsequent layers
  • Good orientation of matting agents
  • PFAS-free

Applications

  • General industrial coatings, automotive coatings, architectural coatings, wood and furniture coatings, marine and protective coatings, floor coatings, printing inks, inkjet inks, leather coatings, adhesives, thermosets
