10:00 AM EDT

Start here! The fundamentals of pigment dispersions

  • A solid foundation has never gone out of style. Join our resident wetting and dispersing expert, Michelle as she shares the essential building blocks behind wetting and dispersion theory, pigment selection, stabilization mechanisms, and highlights the time-saving test methods you may be skipping.
  • Michelle Gabriel-Caldwell (30 minutes)

The colorful world of colorants, tints and dispersions

  • Pigment dispersions, colorants and tints are all used to add color to materials. Uncover how they differ in terms of their physical form and the applications in which they are used.
  • Markus Vogel (30 minutes)

Formulation and additive selection for solvent-borne pigment concentrates

  • The solvent system is a unique liquid medium that will carry the pigment dispersion. Resins and additives must be compatible with the solvent system to impart the desired properties for the application, and no one is more passionate than Brigitte when it comes to selecting the right additives for solvent-borne dispersions.
  • Brigitte Weber (30 minutes)

Dispersant solutions for world-class, solvent-free radiation curable coatings

  • Formulation challenges and market trends inspire Mike and his wood coatings team to solve challenges for customers. Join him as he shares some foolproof steps to selecting an effective wetting and dispersing additive for radiation curable pigmented systems that won’t adversely impact viscosity or gloss retention and provide superior coloristic properties. Mike will also reveal complimentary solutions that boost pigment suspension, improve flow and leveling, and provide superior mechanical resistance that result in world-class radiation curable coatings.
  • Mike Toth (20 minutes)

Questions and answers to making aqueous dispersions right the first time

  • Not all raw materials are created equal when it comes to formulating aqueous dispersions. This seminar will highlight correct attributes to help choose raw materials that are compatible with each other and that will produce desired properties in aqueous dispersions.
  • Julia Zühlke (30 minutes)

Reducing complexity in the world of colorants

  • Universal colorants are often used in point-of-sale tinting applications, where customers can select a base paint and then add universal colorants to create the desired shade. Universal colorants are also used in industrial applications, such as the automotive, aerospace and CASE industries. Gain an understanding of the development of universal colorants which are not only environmentally friendly but also help keep things simple.
  • Markus Vogel (30 minutes)

Mastering the science of gloss adjustment

  • Discover how formulation technology holds the key to optimizing gloss levels. This session will highlight reliable approaches to avoid costly mistakes, gloss variation and inconsistent results.
  • Smriti Arora (20 minutes)

The underestimated troublemaker in the grinding process

  • Having trouble stabilizing viscosity of a millbase? Experiencing batch to batch color consistency? Foam could be the real troublemaker. Join Brent for a discussion on how foam can sabotage color.
  • Brent Laurenti (20 minutes)

Understanding rheology

  • Our resident rheology duo will introduce fundamental rheological properties and highlight they many ways they impact system performance.
  • Marty Kays and Ron Brashear (20 minutes)
